Hampshire, 89-year-old Berlin township resident, died at his home Wednesday morning at 5 o’clock following an illness of two weeks. He suffered a stroke two weeks ago and has been confined to his bed since that time. Born June 18, 1851, he had made his home in Ionia county since 1912. Mrs. Hampshire died 11 years ago. They had been married 53 years at the time of her death. Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Rachel French of Berlin township, Mrs. Ethel Fowler, of Detroit, Mrs. Elmer Wood of Detroit and Mrs. Lillian Bowen of rural route 5, Ionia; three sons, Arthur Hampshire at home, W.A. Hampshire of Kansas City, Missouri, and Samuel Hampshire of Smyrna. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the home of his oldest daughter, Mrs. Rachel French, in Berlin township. Interment will be at the Balcom cemetery and Dr. Paul L. Stewart will have charge of the service.
