March 20, 1976 A well known Ionia county farmer, Herman H. Haney, 78 died Friday evening in Grand Rapids Blodgett hospital following a two week illness as a patient. Born in Spencerville, Ohio, July 12, 1897, he was a son of Frederic and Caroline Huff Haney and came to Michigan with his family when a young boy. He attended Blanchard and Hall rural schools in Orleans township and married Violet Jenks, Nov. 9, 1915, in Ionia. The couple lived in Easton township and marked their Golden wedding anniversary in 1965, and their 60th anniversary in November 1975. Among the organizations in which Mr. Haney was active were: Michigan Farm Bureau, Banner grange, Ionia Elks and First United Methodist Church. He also served on Easton township board of review, at one time was township treasurer and served several terms on Haynor road school board as its director and treasurer. He was also a member of Ionia fishing and hunting club, and was one of the persons instrumental in building Banner Grange. Surviving besides his wife Violet are three sons; Melvin of San Francisco, Dale and Marvin of Ionia county, and a daughter Mrs. Orville Hawkins of Ionia, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are: two sisters Minnie Haney and Mrs. Dora Jenks of Grand Rapids; five brothers, Fred and Louis of Ionia, Augustus of Detroit, Milo of Chicago and Clarence of Lowell. Services will be at 2 pm March 23, at Leddick funeral home with Rev. Charles Fullmer of First United Methodist church officiating. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends and relatives Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm and Monday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm. A memorial fund has been established for the Ionia Chapter of the American cancer society. Burial is in Easton Cemetery.
