Haney, aged 72 years, at about 5:45 Saturday afternoon, at his home south of this city and in the same home in which his birth occurred. Mr. Haney had spent his entire lifetime as a resident on the old home farm and so attached was he to the place, that, although his condition was such that he might have received possible better care in some hospital, he had earnestly requested his children not to remove him from the old home to some convalescent home, hospital or other institution. His wishes in this particular had been honored by his children, especially the son, Gerald, who living at home, has borne the care of his father uncomplainingly. Although Mr. Haney had been unable to work for a number of years, he had retained an interest in matters connected with the operation of the farm and current events and shortly before his passing away he had been sitting in a chair, as usual. When his son, Gerald, noticed his father slump over in his chair, he assisted the parent into his bed and it was not long afterward that death came to relieve his suffering. Surviving are four sons, Gerald, at home; Grant, of Orleans; George, of Detroit, and Benjamin, a student at Michigan State college, East Lansing; three daughters, Mrs. Julia Carney and Mrs. Eunice Dieleman, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Louise Schaech, of Winona Lake, Ind.; also five grandchildren and five sisters. Funeral services were held at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. William Blanding of Lansing, a former pastor of the Belding Methodist church, officiating and burial was in the Haney family lot in River Ridge cemetery.
