Bernice “Berni” Hafner, loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, “aunt,”
Godmother and genuine friend, died at Carson City Hospital, Sunday, Aug. 4,
2002, at the age of 53, after a brief and courageous fight with cancer.  Born in
St. Johns on Feb. 14, 1949, she was the daughter of Roman L. and Marian C.
(Smith) Hafner.  She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Pewamo, Catholic Order
of Foresters and previously employed by George Worthington and the last five
years with Farm Bureau in Lansing.  Berni also enjoyed playing golf, bowling,
puzzles, woodcrafts and watching her nephews and nieces in any activities they
were involved in.  Berni was a graduate of Pewamo-Westphalia High School in 1967.

She is survived by her mother, Marina Hafner of Pewamo; one sister, Joyce (Ken)
Heckman of Pewamo; three brothers, Carl (Linda) Hafner of Pewamo, Bob (Alice)
Hafner of Westphalia, Dan (Maridell) Hafner of Pewamo; nine nieces, Tami,
Trisha, Amanda, Dawn, Robin, Pam, Karen, Tina and Brenda; six nephews, Jarrod,
Jason, Eric, Brian, Tony and Jeremy; one great-nephew and six great-nieces. 
Berni was preceded in death by her father, Roman Hafner.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Most Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pewamo with Rev. F. Charlon
Mason officiating.  The family will receive friends on Monday and will again
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of the
Osgood Funeral Home in Fowler with a Rosary service prayed on Monday and again
at 3 p.m. Tuesday and a scripture wake service at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
