Mr. Hanigan was the supervisor from the Third ward for 19 years and former chairman of the county board. Special tribute was paid to Mr. Hanigan plus all business establishments were closing for Tuesdays' funeral. Employees and supervisors from the court house planned to attendthe funeral en masse. The Ionia Elks lodge were represented at the funeral as well as having the service at the graveside. The size of the funeral forced a change of venue from the family home to the Presbyterian church to accommodate mourners. Coroner Harry Myers set 10 a.m. Thursday as the time for the inquest. Mr. Hanigan was born in Warsaw, N.Y. Upon arriving in the Ionia area he sought work at a lumber mill in Edmore, he went on to conducted a grocery store in Ionia from 1895 to 1914. A couple years after leaving the store started work at the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company, spending 20 years in their employ. Survivors of James Hanigan are: his widow, Liza, 75, two daughter: Mrs. A.A. Nichol and Mrs. Nita Cutler of Ionia along with one son, Earl Hanigan of Detroit.
