Ionia Sentinel Standard, 10 Feb 1970

Mrs. Ethel R. Augst Hanks, 83, former Lake Odessa resident, died at Clarke
Memorial home in Grand Rapids Monday afternoon.  She had been a resident there
since 1966.  She was born in Ionia county, October 22, 1886, the daughter of
Byron and Flora Keefer Richardson.  September 9, 1907 she was married to Leon
Augst and lived in Lake Odessa area until he died, February 6, 1942.  She then
moved to Lansing where she married Arthur Hanks, October 15, 1946 and he died in
1959.  A member of First United Methodist church in Lansing she also belonged to
its WSCS and Women’s Christian Temperance union.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gaytha Kime of Gibsonton, Fla., Mrs. Roland
Jackson of Lansing; two sons, Leonard Augst of Reed City, Gerald Augst of Lake
Odessa; two step-sons, Elroy Hanks of Onondaga and Leo Hanks of Lansing; 17
grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Pickens funeral chapel in Lake
Odessa.  Rev. Stanley Buck of Hastings will officiate and interment will be at
Lakeside cemetery.
