Hanks at his home east of the city Monday night, about 8:30 o’clock. He and his wife who lived alone had been playing dominoes after supper and spending the evening pleasantly as usual, finally Mr. Hanks retired and shortly afterward Mrs. Hanks also retired, supposing he was already asleep, in a short time she heard him breathing hard and reached over and shook him to awaken him, but getting no response, she immediately got out of bed and found his life had passed out, her daughters and neighbors were quickly summoned by telephone. He was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, July 20th, 1843 and enlisted Nov. 1st, 1861 for 3 years, in Co F. First Wisconsin Cavalry, on a skirmish raid he was captured and placed in Andersonville prison and later taken to Southern Florida, on Aug. 8, 1865 he was given an honorable discharge from the service at Madison, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Eliza Corryell April 23, 1870, at Hubbardston and soon moved to Wisconsin, residing there nine years. He was a member of the Hubbardston Post G.A.R. and also united with the Hubbardston M. E. church about thirty-five years ago. Besides his wife he leaves a son, Lyman Hanks of Racine, Wisconsin, and two daughters, Mrs. C.C. Briggs and Mrs. Bert Luce of this city. The funeral was held today at 2 o’clock at the home of C. C. Brigg’s, Rev. I. S. Bussing officiated.
