No more grandma Hanline baby booties or that special occasion homemade cake. Marilyn's busy days came to an end on August 19, 2024, just five days after her 94th birthday, but her memories will live on as she takes her forever break. Marilyn Ruth (Ries) Hanline was born August 14, 1930, in Ionia,Michigan to Lawrence Otis and Lottie Belle Ries, the youngest of their four children. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and their spouses, Hubert (Lillian)Ries, Gordan(Ruth) Ries and Maxine (Harold) Sprank. Marilyn married Donald E. Hanline on February 14, 1947. Their marriage produced seven children including a son, Daryl, who never took a breath. Their six daughters include Linda (Richard) Schaefer, Laura (Charles) Stewart, Lisa-Loucks (James) McKee, Lucena (Roy) Schneider and Liana Hanline. Her youngest daughter, Lona Pennington, preceded in death. Lona's husband, Gary Pennington survives. She was a proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren. Her joy was multiplied with the birth of each of her 34 great-grandchildren as well as her 11 great-great- grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald; grandson,LaVon Cooper and sons- in-law Thomas Loucks and Kevin Carroll. Marilyn's life revolved around her family, their community, church and school. Marilyn, along with Geraldine Cooper, organized Girl scouts in 1956 with 10 girls registered, continuing for over 50 years. She had a lifetime membership in Girl Scouting. Marilyn worked with several other Community members and business owners in organizing the Lyons-Muir Civic Club. She was a member of the Muir First Christian Church. Marilyn spent her last years at good Vibes Assisted Living home in Pewamo. She was the first resident. She enjoyed living at the home, the caring, supportive staff and the friendship of the other residents. Funeral services were held at First Christian Church in Muir on Thursday, August 22nd at 11:00 AM with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
