Lake Odessa Wave-Thursday May 10, 1951

DOUBLE SERVICE HELD FOR HUSBAND, WIFE
William D. Hansbarger, 76, and his wife Elizabeth, 77 both died unexpectedly at 
their home early Saturday morning within minutes.
Mr. Hansbarger had called the doctor about midnight when his wife became ill and 
pounded on the window to attract the E.G. Garliner family's attention. 
Mr.Garlinger investigated and went to the home to find Mrs.Hansbarger apparently
dead and as he spoke to Mr.Hansbarger, who thought his wife had died, saw him 
collapse at the bedside. Both were dead on the arrival of the doctor a few 
minutes later.

Coroner Dale Kauffman of Ionia was called and stated the deaths were caused from 
heart ailments. Both had been in ill health for several years.

Mrs Hansbarger was born in Odessa Township and was a lifelong resident of this 
area.

Mr. Hansbarger, retired farmer and carpenter, was born in Ohio but had lived in 
this area for many years. The couple moved from their farm about one and a half 
miles north of town to their home her in 1920.

Mrs. Hansbarger was a member of the Rebekah lodge, Past Noble Grand club and 
other social clubs. Mr.Hansbarger was a member of the Oddfellows lodge.

They are survived by one son Chester of Saranac, four grandchildren and eight 
grand-children. Mr Hansbarger also leaves a brother Plina of Woodland and a 
half-brother Nelson of Lake Odessa.

Double funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Pickens Chapel with 
burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. A.J. Pitman officiated.
