The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, March 28, 1974
Chester H. Hansbarger, 73, better known as Chet, died suddenly late Wednesday 
afternoon of a heart attack at his winter home in Homestead, Fla.  A former 
resident of Ionia, Mr. Hansbarger still spent his summers here.

Born in Lake Odessa July 15, 1900, he was the son of William and Elizabeth 
Morrow Hansbarger.  He attended the Lake Odessa school and General Motors Tech 
at Flint.  He was at one time employed at the Chevrolet garage in Ionia.

December 24, 1920 he was married in Ionia to Alice Gibbs.  They moved from 
Lake Odessa to Ionia where they lived until 1937 when they left to make their 
home in Muir.  He owned and operated a garage in Muir until 1942.  At that 
time he accepted employment at the AC division of General Motors in Ionia.  In 
1947 he moved south of Saranac where he owned and operated a store and gas 
station on old US 16.  In 1959 he sold the business and retired.

He and his wife were charter members of the Michigan chapter of the Wally Byam 
Caravan club and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and 
Mexico, spending the winters in Florida.  They celebrated their golden wedding 
anniversary in Ionia in 1970.  He was a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge.

Surviving are the wife, Alice, at Homestead; three daughters, Mrs. Hulda Loper 
of Belding, Mrs. Elouise Sage of Muskegon and Mrs. Barbara Watson of Portland, 
Ore; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Leddick funeral home.
