At the age of 18 he came west to Ohio. In 1873 he was united in marriage to Samantha Price, to whom were born four sons, Harley, William, Plennie, and Arthur Joseph, and a daughter Emma Ellen who died in infancy. In 1876 he was converted and united with the Primitive Baptist church in Seneca county, Ohio, and up to the time of his death his faith in God was unshaken. In 1882, he with his family came to Odessa township and in 1896 moved to the village of Lake Odessa, of which village he was president three years. While living here his wife died on January 27, 1912. He was again married to Ada Mumaw, August 15, 1912. To this union was born one child, Nelson David. He was the oldest of five children, the others survive him and are Mrs. Ellen Estep, Aaron and James, all in Ohio and Fred Hansbarger of Virginia. These with his wife, five sons, fourteen grand-children, and a host of friends remain to mourn their loss. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Wednesday. Rev. I. H. Mourer preached and a quartette composed of Mrs. C.A. Lapo, Mrs. A.J. Dann, Leon T. Gilson and Geo. E. Kart, accompanied by Mrs. S.W. Dann, sang. Interment was in Lakeside cemetery. The business places were closed during the time of the funeral and the large attendance showed the respect in which the deceased was held.
