He was born in Alma on January 28, 1925, the son of Walter and Coila Anderson Hanson. He was a graduate of Ionia High School in 1942 and The University of Michigan in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a former auto dealer in Ionia, Standish, and Bay City. He was serving as a management consultant for the National Automobile Dealers Association at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one daughter, Kathleen Rowley of Ypsilanti; two sons, Andrew Florida and William of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren; and two brothers Philip of Ann Arbor and David of Ionia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Bay City. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Cemetery, Tampa, Fla. The family will be at the Stapish-West Funeral Chapel, 805 E. South Union St., Bay City, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials have been established for Bay Area Community Foundation and the Michigan Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
