Hanson, age 76, of 606 Pearl street passed away at the Greenville hospital October 1, at 4:00 a.m. following a five day illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been taken to the hospital on Sunday. Mr. Hanson was born April 16, 1876 at Chesaning and except for a short time at Ionia, he had lived here most of his life. On September 9, 1898 at Greenville he was married to Anna Dows, who survives. They had recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Foss of this city and one son Ervin Hanson of Holland, two grandchildren, Gerald Foss in the service at Quonset Pt., Long Island, and Libbie Ann Hanson. He had worked at the Silk Mills and at the Belding Basket factory and was a life member of the Oddfellow Lodge and for many years a member of the Elks in Ionia. A Spanish American War Veteran, he had served as a sergeant in the Michigan infantry, Company I., 34th Regiment. He had also been a county supervisor, alderman, and for many years served on the city Board of Review. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Fales-Huffman Chapel with Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating. Burial will be at River Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers will be Byron Cook, Ferd Lewis, Vern Brown, Clinton Kern, Earle Richardson and William Crystler.
