Following his return from overseas he has been stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. Spec. 4 Michael L. Harger, 21, of route 1, Portland, was killed in a motorcycle accident at King City, Calif., May 1. He was born August 26, 1947, the son of Lewis and Phyllis Harger. His father preceded him in death several years ago. Having enlisted in the service in 1967 he served a year tour of duty in Vietnam with the first air cavalry as a helicopter door gunner. He was wounded and spent some time in the hospital in Vietnam. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold K. Ward of Portland; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Shinaver of Portland and Deborah Ward; four brothers, Jeffrey, Douglas, Keith and Scott Ward. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 2 pm at Neller funeral home in Portland. Rev. Millard Roote of West Sebewa Baptist church will officiate and burial will be at Portland cemetery. Military services will be at the funeral home and also at the cemetery.
