Ruth Hargie, 89, 234 Smith street, Portland, died Feb. 15 at her home. She was born March 4, 1896, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of William Kakabaker and Jenett Hartland. She was a retired physical education school teacher, graduated from Western Michigan University and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 258. She was a former member of the White Shrine and the Ladies Literary Club. Surviving are one son: Kay Hargie of Lansing; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, from the Neller Funeral Home in Portland with the Rev. Eleanor Morrison of First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Guy Jones, Emmett Watson, Thomas Buck, Robert Olmstead, Charles Burnham, and Richard Hargie. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hargie, Jack and Peter Kakabaker, Harold and Jerry Carveth and John Thompson.
