Hargrave were held from the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, May 9, with a large attendance of sorrowing relatives and friends. Rev. J. Broxholm, pastor of the church, officiated and music was furnished by Mrs. Guy Comstock and Mrs. Chas. Bailey with Mrs. Louis Herrick at the piano. Bearers were members of the Ionia-Montcalm Medical association of which Dr. Hargrave was dean. An escort of Sir Knights from Ionia Commandery was in attendance and burial was in the family lot in the Palo cemetery beside his wife who preceded him in death, July 13, 1936. Dr. Hargrave was born at Menominee Falls, Wisc., 82 years ago and was educated in the public schools of that state, later obtaining his medical degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Soon after he came to Palo and established his practice and for 55 years has ministered to the needs of the people of the village and of a wide territory adjoining it. He had established a reputation for his treatment of skin cancer and people came to him for treatment from many sections of the state. Dr. Hargrave was a member of Palo Masonic order, Ionia Commandery Knights Templar and also belonged to the Maccabee and Gleaner organizations. For 24 years he was a member of the Palo school board, and president of the cemetery association until ill health forced him to retire. Surviving him are two sons Dr. Don W. Hargrave of Eaton Rapids and James of Lansing; a daughter, Mrs. Harmon Kline of Detroit who has remained with her father for the past three years and tenderly cared for him during his periods of ill health. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Judavine of Ronald who is the last surviving member of the family of eight children and a number of nieces and nephews.
