Heart disease complicated with kidney and liver trouble was the cause of his taking off. Death came to Mr. Haring Thursday morning, September 7, 1905, after a little over a week’s illness. Last week it was thought he was dying and the members of the family were sent for. Mr. Haring has a host of friends throughout Gratiot county, who will be grieved to learn of his demise. The deceased was one of those whole souled genial men, who always had a hearty handclasp and a pleasant word for everyone and he was admired for his rugged honesty and many good qualities that go toward making a strong Christian character. Hiram Haring was born January 7, 1844 in Summit county, Ohio, making him nearly 62 years of age. He was reared on a farm and educated in the public schools. At the age of 19 he began teaching. When 26 years old he married Susan Folz. In 1870 Mr. Haring came to Michigan, settling in Bloomer township, Montcalm County. In 1875 he moved to the town of Lebanon, Clinton county, and a year later to the township of North Shade, where he lived until 1896, when he was elected county clerk on the Union Silver ticket, and moved with his family to Ithaca. Previous to this he had held the office of town clerk and supervisor. After his retirement from public office he bought the farm in Newark, where he died. Besides a wife, Mr. Haring leaves five children. They are Elton E. of Moline; Mrs. Jennie Ludwick of Clinton county; Mrs. John Davis of Newark; Ophir Haring, who lives in Ithaca and Parcy, who lives at home. Funeral services were held at Hubbardston, Sunday at 10 a.m. and burial was made in the cemetery there. Mr. Haring was well known to our people as an upright and honorable man, an exemplary citizen and a firm friend. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to the bereaved family.
