Harley Albert A. Harley, 61, died at 1:20 a.m. August 15 at his Woodard Lake home. A veteran of World War I, he served with Co. D, 126th Infantry, and was wounded in the Battle of the Marne, in July, 1918. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal and was the first Ionia soldier to receive a gold star. He was honorably discharged November 15, 1918. Mr. Harley was born June 17, 1898, in Ionia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Harley, and was married December 31, 1934. He is survived by his wife, Olga E. Harley; one son, James; two daughters, Marlene and Lucille of Galesburg, and two brothers, Walter and Dale of Grand Rapids. He was a member of Flat River post Disabled American Veterans, who performed the funeral rites. Funeral services were held on Monday at 1 p.m. from Myers funeral home, Ionia. The Rev. Heath T. Goodwin officiated and burial was in Balcom cemetery, Ionia.
