Father of 10 children. Obituary Edward J. Harmal was born in Obornick, Germany, on April 12, 1851, and departed this life last Sunday afternoon, May 8, at the home of his sons in West Sebewa. He received his education and early Christian training in the parental home and in the common schools of his native country, and when he had attained to manhood, was united in holy wedlock to Miss Anna Emilie Hackett in the year 1875. For a brief period the young couple remained in the old home community, but in 1878 they came to America and settled in West Sebewa, Ionia county, Michigan. God blessed this union with 10 children, six of whom have preceded the father in death, while four, two sons and two daughters survive. On July 8, 1920, his faithful wife and companion was called to her reward and since then he has made his home with his sons Albert and Henry. The deceased belonged to that sturdy stock which formed the rear guard of the army of pioneers who never knew of the ills which humanity in our days is subject to. In fact, Mr. Harmal never was sick, but in the last months of his life the infirmities of old age became more pronounced so he was confined to the house and later to his bed, where he was tenderly cared for by his children. On Sunday afternoon, May 8, he peacefully fell asleep. His age amounts to 81 years and 26 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his two sons, Albert and Henry Harmal, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Zander of Ionia and Mrs. Martha Winter of Woodbury, 8 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Burial services were held last Wednesday, May 11, and interment was made in Lakeside cemetery.
