He has been in failing health for four or five years, and confined to his room for two weeks. He came here as locomotive engineer, but lost his position about twenty years ago through eccentricities of conduct. Since that time he has been janitor of the Burhans block, although in name only for some time, the work being done by Mrs. A. B. Brown, who has also taken such care of him during past few weeks as she was able. He served in a New York regiment during the Civil war, but has not been a member of Borden post for several years, withdrawing on account of some fancied injury. Mr. and Mrs. Brown tried to get him to go to Soldier’s Home some months ago. Within the last few days the old soldiers took the matter up with Supervisor Amphlett, who yesterday telephoned the home describing the emergency of the situation, and this morning received a dispatch saying, “Bring him along, without waiting for formalities.” But it was then too late. Little is known of his early life. He was married, but his wife left him about eight years ago. He has a brother and sister, but the address of former is unknown. A telegram was sent to his sister in Pulaski, N.Y., but no answer has been received. She may be dead or removed, or take no further interest in the matter. Deceased has always, so far as known here, been eccentric to the point of mental irresponsibility. His death was caused by neuralgia of the heart. The funeral service will be from Bradley’s Undertaking rooms at 10 a.m. Monday. Funeral services for the late Decatur Harmon, who died this morning, will be held at the undertaking rooms of Chas. H. Bradley, Monday morning at 10 o’clock. As many old soldiers as can do so are requested to attend. Burial on G.A.R. lot in Oak Hill cemetery.
