Harper, 77, a resident here for 60 years and prominently identified with the lumbering business when that industry flourished in this vicinity several decades ago, died Wednesday afternoon at the residence of his sister, Miss. Alice Harper, 521 Bayard street, following five months of declining health. Services will be conducted at the residence Friday at 2 o'clock by Dr. M.W. Duffy. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery. Born at Blenheim, Ontario, Mr. harper was but a youth when he accompanied his parents to Ionia, that had since been his home. He never married and following the death years ago of his mother, made his home with his sisters, Miss Alice Harper and Mrs. Anna Farwell, the latter of whom passed away two months ago. George Harper's death was probably hastened by the death of his sister, Mrs. Anna Farwell, two months ago. He was a lifelong republican and a loyal citizen of the country of his adoption. Mr. Harper was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Harper, who came to Ionia in 1873. He had been a subscriber of the Ionia Sentinel for the last 60 years. Besides Miss Harper he leaves three other sisters, Ms. Anna Spaulding, of Lansing, and Ms. Elizabeth Burns, of Windsor, and Mrs. A.P. Clark Mattison, of Chicago, as well as a brother, James Harper of Pontiac.
