The driver of the car, Bernard Weaver, 34, of Toledo, O., and two other people were injured. Sheriff’s deputies of Mecosta county said that Weaver was a hitchhiker whom Harris had picked up south of Traverse City. Weaver took over the wheel of the car on US-131 south of Big Rapids and the accident happened near Rogers Heights, five miles south of Big Rapids. Weaver was taken to St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Rapids, and two other passengers, Merle Wilbur, 20, and Arthur Wilbur, 17, both of Greenville, were taken to Community Hospital, Big Rapids. The Wilburs were brothers-in-law of Harris. Harris’ daughter, Beatrice Ann, drew much attention last summer when she was bitten by a pet lion at Wolf Lake near Muskegon. Two-and-a-half years old when, she was hospitalized and injured seriously but later recovered from the boat with the 400-pound beast. Harris is survived by his wife, Betty, and five children, Paul, Dennis, Geraldine, Beatrice, and Nancy. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Harris of Belding; eight brothers, Eldred, Gerald, Sigurd, William D., all of Greenville, and Ronald, Philip, and Timothy, at home; and three sisters, Mrs. James Smith of Butternut, and Letha and Leslie, at home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ellis Funeral Chapel with Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Otisco cemetery.
