June 8, 2013 LAKE ODESSA, MI-Norman L. Harris, age 77, of Lake Odessa, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013 in Grand Rapids. Norm was born on July 23, 1935 in Lake Odessa to Ernest and Sarah (Daniels) Harris. He married Marion Myers on August 20, 1955. Over their 57 year of marriage, they raised five children. Norm was employed in the housing industry as a carpenter, in the Lakewood School system as a girls' and boys' tennis coach for 10 years, as a custodian for 24 years. He was known for his love of students and tennis. this love of tennis is evident to this day, as each year a deserving tennis player receives the "Norm Harris Dedication Award" for the most dedicated team player. Norm will be dearly missed by his wife, Marion; children, Steve (Jenny) Harris of Lake Odessa, Dennis (Cece) Harris of Universal City, TX, Kathie (Jim Sparling of Port Huron, Jerald (Sharon) Harris of Vermontville, and Butch (Norman) (Kathy) Harris of Paw Paw; brothers, Ernie Harris of Belding, Roger (Imagene) Harris of Belding; sisters, Doris (Lyle) Eastman of NC. and Barb (Scott) Brown of Gladstone; sisters-in-law, Elzada Harris, Caroline Harris and Sharon Harris; brother-in-law, Richard Davis; 17 grandchildren and 1 1/2 great grandchildren. Norm was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Larry and Kenneth as well as one sister, Betty Davis. Norm wanted it known that he thanks Marty Snoap for all that he taught him. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the family home at 770 4th Street, Lake Odessa, with Pastor Steve Hadley of the Living Gospel Church presiding until 6 p.m. A bon fire and potluck will follow. Please bring your lawn chairs. Memorial contribution s in memory of Norm may be given to the VFW Post 4461 or the Living Gospel Church, 1600 Rochester Street, P.O. Box 685, Lake Odessa.
