J. Warren, of typhoid pneumonia, William H. Harris, in his 57th year. Mr. Harris was a native of New York. He came to Portland five years ago from Canandaigua, thinking to make this his place of permanent residence. He and his wife found the process of acclimation very long and severe, and when they at last came to feel somewhat acclimated and rooted, their children, the wives of John H. Peet and Elisha Estes, returned East and they followed them only about three months since. Mr. Harris returned only three weeks ago today to run a turning lathe three months for C. J. Warren. He worked only a few days, when he was taken down with the fatal disease. One week ago the disease fastened him to his bed and he sunk rapidly until he passed away on Saturday evening, at ten minutes to 11 o’clock. His wife and Mr. Peet came two hours before his death, but he was too far gone to recognize them. Mr. Harris was a member of the Congregational Church at the place of his residence, and was a man much respected in our village, and especially so by those who knew him best. During his last days he was much in prayer, and his death was very peaceful. His remains were taken to Canandaigua for interment.
