The Ionia County News, April 5, 1927

Mrs. Mellissa Harter, 84, well known resident and pioneer of this city, passed 
away at the home of her son, Harry Harter, 524 North Jefferson street, last 
Friday afternoon, following a lingering illness of more than two years.

The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the son’s home, with Rev. 
Herbert G. Hurrell, pastor of the Church of Christ, in charge.  B. J. Boynton 
was the officiating undertaker, and interment was made in Highland Park 
cemetery.

She is survived by four sons, Harry and Walter, of Ionia, and Wilmer and 
George of Chicago, and one daughter, Mrs. Guy Sayles, Ionia.
