Harter died Friday afternoon at her home at 157 Lafayette St., at the advanced age of 90 years. She was the last child of Deacon William Babcock, large family, who came to Ionia county from New York State with other early pioneers. Mrs. Harter’s husband, Harvey Harter, who died many years ago, was for many years one of the first stockholders of the First National bank and was cashier also. Of the large family of children only two survive, Mrs. Julia Gillett of Ionia and Fred Harter of Colorado. Mrs. Harter was a woman of much strength of mind and character, which enabled her to endure unusual sorrows and troubles which come to but few in this world, and in spite of which she lived to her advanced age with unimpaired strength of mind and force of will. The funeral will be held from the residence at 2:30 on Sunday, Rev. M. L. Marshall and Rev. W. K. Spencer will officiate at the services, and the interment will be in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery. The funeral for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Harter was held at the home on Lafayette street Sunday afternoon. Rev. M. L. Marshall and Rev. W. K. Spencer officiated. The bearers were Fred Cutler, Fred Stiven, A.B. Sibley and Frank Taylor and the interment was in the family lot at Oak Hill.
