Spencer officiated and Mrs. Thane Benedict and Mrs. G. M. Phelps sang. Deceased was born in Ionia on Nov. 25, 1852, being thus 58 years past, at the time of his death. He was of peculiar genial and kindly temperament. He came from a family who were pioneers in the mercantile and banking life of this city; the father is long since dead, but the venerable mother survives, at the ripe age of 82 years. Deceased was a member of the Ionia High School class of ’74, the third class (of three members) graduated from this school. He afterward took a business college course at Grand Rapids, when he returned to Ionia and went into the retail grocery business, continuing some 20 years. His social and business standing in the community was always excellent. He was married in 1882 to Alice, youngest daughter of Dr. C. H. Hammond, both active at the time in the work of the young people of the Presbyterian church. The remains were placed in the Wager-Libhart vault in Highland Park, there to rest until spring, when internment will be made. The carriers were: F. A. Stiven, M.M. McGeary, H. A. Rich, and W. W. Townsend of Hubbardston. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/h/harter6640nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
