Harter, May 10, at the advanced age of 81 years. His death was the result of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered in 1902 since which time his health has gradually failed. He was born in Herkimer county, New York, March 27, 1832, and was the youngest of a family of 13 children. He was the last one of his family, the others having passed away beyond. December 23, 1856 he was married to Mary M. Bliss at Mohawk, Herkimer county, New York, and four sons were born to them. In 1858 Mr. and Mrs. Harter removed from New York home to the farm now owned by their son Charles, thus becoming one of the pioneer families of the county. In 1902 Mr. Harter suffered a stroke of paralysis which incapacitated him from active life. Since then his health has gradually failed until the end. He was a brother of Benjamin, Harvey, George and others all well known early residents of Ionia.
