Helen was born January 24, 1918 in Ionia the daughter of Victor and Nellie Davidson Wheaton. Helen graduated with honors from Ionia High School. Helen was a member of the Belding United Methodist Church where she was a choir director and organist during the time of Rev. Luther Brokaw. Helen worked as the secretary to the Director of Nursing at the Riverside Correctional Facility in Ionia retiring after 23 years. Helen met and eventually married Donald R. Hartley while they were both working at the Ionia Reformatory; the two where married on November 10, 1938 and Don preceded Helen in 1998. Helen was also preceded by her parents, her brothers, James, Stanley, Clare and Kenneth, her sister, Marjorie, her mother in law, Gladys Hartley, her brother and sister in law, Melbourne and Marge Hartley. Helen is survived by her daughters, Sharon and James Bushman of Livonia and Glendale, AZ, Nancy and Jim Moorman of Wyoming, and Katherine and Philip Edwards ofSheridan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sharon Marie Bushman of Brooklyn, NY, Jeff and Sandy Chrispell of Fenville, Thomas and Missy Scholten of Wayland, Matthew and Caitlin Edwards of Sheridan, Malinda Moorman and David Rinderknecht of Waterford, Gerald and Jenny Adams of Wyoming; six great grandchildren, Justin and Ashleigh Scholten, Autumn and Isabella Rinderknecht and Traye and Kimberly Adams; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses. Funeral services for Helen will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Jim Bowen officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 in Lowell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one's choice.
