Lyons Herald, 27 Jul 1911

Benjamin Hartman was born in Monroe county, N.Y., July 9, 1824 and died July 
18, 1911.  Funeral services were held at the home Rev. Judd officiating, music 
being furnished by L.A. Balch and Mrs. Bradt; Miss Grove at the organ.  Mr. 
Hartman came to Michigan in the fall of 1863 and bought 80 acres of wild land.  
This he cleared and soon had under cultivation.  In 1867 he was married to Miss 
Emma Fiske.  To this union were born three sons, Marcus, David and Benjamin, 
Jr. all residents at the present time of Ionia county.

In 1878 he bought 55 acres of land of Wm. Ferguson, which place has since been 
his home.  In the death of Mr. Hartman the family lose a kind husband and 
father and the world a safe conservative business man.
