Anna was born on April 4, 1925 in Roseville the daughter of Harley C. and Roseanna McKenna Ruby. After completing high school and attended Valparaiso University. She later continued her education at Western Michigan University where she earned her bachelors and Masters degrees in education. She was married on September 10, 1949 to Harold K. Hartman in Roseville; Anna and Harold later settled near Orleans. Anna taught for many years at the Ionia Public Schools until her retirement. She and Harold were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Ionia; they were also members of the local Walking Club in Ionia; they had traveled widely participating in Volksmarches and Elderhostels. In 2001 Anna became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding; while living in Murphysboro she attended Our Savior Lutheran Church and served as a classroom volunteer at Carbondale New School. Anna is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Dr. Rebecca (Barry Wesley) Hartman of Murphysboro, Janice (Rev. Jeff) Sage of Austin, Minn.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Wesley and Abigail Wesley; one sister Mary Henshaw; one brother William Ruby and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, John, Wilmer, Ralph and Scott and her husband Harold. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services for Anna will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Belding with her son-in-law Rev. Jeff Sage officiating. Committal services will follow in Orleans Township Cemetery. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held at the Belhaven Community Room. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Care PO Box 175, Carbondale, IL 62901 (St. Francis Care is a non-euthanasia animal shelter) or International Student Ministry in St. Louis MO.
