Stephen J. Hartman, age 69, of Ionia, passed away on Monday July 28, 2003.  He 
was born on March 22, 1934 in Ionia, the son of Oliver and Dorothy (Youngs) 
Hartman.

Mr. Hartman was a lifelong farmer who loved Oliver tractors and Jersey cows.  
Stephen also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the F&AM #37 
Lyons Lodge, and also served in the U.S. Army for two years.

Mr. Harman loved his family and had many friends.  He was preceded in death by 
his parents.  Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Mildred L. Hartman of Ionia; 
daughter Elizabeth (Jim) Voorheis of Ionia; sons Marcus (Tamara Hartman and 
Frank (Kimberly) Hartman, both of Ionia; grandchildren Benjamin, Laura and 
Amanda Hartman, Sophia, Thomas Kirsten and Raymond Christensen; brother 
William (Sharon) Hartman of Ionia; cousin Dave Hartman of Grand Rapids.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh 
Community Church, at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 
Cook Chapel, 220 Rich Street.  Interment in Woodard Lake Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 
from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the 
Ionia County Commission on Aging, in memory of Stephen J. Hartman, for those 
who desire.
