Hartwick, 83, of Portland passed peacefully at his home April 24, 2005. He was born in Mills Township Jan. 3, 1922 the son of Peter and Edna (Thompson) Hartwick. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle and friend. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alton, Orville (Francine) and Theron (Donna); brother-in-law, Berle Barrus; daughter, Janelle Hartwick and great-granddaughter Kaitlin Elaine Huff. He will never be forgotten and always be loved. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Jeannette; children, Noble (Rosemary) Hartwick, Lana (Faro) Gervasi, Doris (Bob) Urie, Elaine (Larry) Gilmore, Lane (Bonnie) Hartwick, and Pete (Lisa) Hartwick; 16 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; sister, Irene Barrus; many nieces and nephews. Melvin build many things including a great, strong family that he loved with all his heart. We will never forget all the great things he taught us. Loved and never forgotten. Services were conducted by Pastor Daniel L. Steman April 26 at the Church of the Nazarene, Portland. Military honors were provided by V.F.W. Post #4090, Portland. Arrangements were handled by the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice.
