Orville P. Hartwick, 86, of Portland  passed away at his home on Monday, 
November 24, 2003.  

He was born on March 10, 1918 in Newberry, MI the son of Peter and Edna 
(Thompson) Hartwick.  Mr. Hartwick was a proud Veteran of World War II, 
serving in the United States Army, and received a Purple Heart and Bronze 
Star.  He was a Life Member of the Portland VFW Post #4090 and retired from 
Auto Air in Lansing in 1983.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and 
working in his yard.  He married Francine Hills on November 8, 1947 and 
together they raised their family in the house he built on Green Street and 
shared 53 years of marriage together until her passing on January 29, 2001.  

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Warner; brothers, Theron 
and Alton Hartwick.  

Surviving are his children, Linda (Mike) Meyers, LouAnn (George) Warner, and 
Steve (Vanessa) Hartwick; 7 grandchildren, Bruce (Chloe) Meyers, Amy Meyers, 
Jennifer (Josh) Cross, Thomas (Kristi) Warner, David Warner, Michelle 
Hartwick, and Adam Vettes; 4 great grandchildren, Evan Warner, Vaughn and 
Xanthe Cross, and Michael Bruce Meyers; brother, Melvin (Jeanette) Hartwick of 
Portland; sister, Irene Barrus of Greenville; special friend, Delores Sandborn 
of Portland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred (Virginia) Hills of Portland, 
Carolyn (Leon) Fulcher of Muir; step-mother-in-law, Bernice Hills of Grand 
Rapids; several nieces and nephews.   

Services were held Nov. 29 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland with 
Interment at Portland Cemetery.  Military Graveside Honors were provided by 
the Portland VFW Post #4090.  Contributions may be made to the Portland VFW 
Post #4090.
