Jeanette (Murphy) Hartwick, 78, of Portland, died April 10, 2008.  She was born
and raised in Lansing on October 26, 1929 the daughter of Howard and Iris (Amis)
Murphy.  Mrs. Hartwick was a member of the Portland VFW Post #4090 Women’s
Auxiliary.  She loved us all and will be greatly missed.  In her final days she
was cared for by many people including the Commission on Aging and Heartland
Hospice of Mason.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Melvin K. Hartwick in
2005; parents; three brothers, Raymond, Robert and Albert “Dick” (Lois) Murphy;
half-sister Eileen and two great-grandchildren Kaitlin Elaine Huff and Gabriel
Lane Hartwick.

Surviving are five children, Doris (Bill) Russell of Linn, Mo., Elaine (Larry)
Gilmore, Lane (Bonnie) Hartwick, Pete (Lisa) Hartwick, all of Portland, and
Jerry Murphy of Cheboygan; two stepchildren Noble (Rose Mary) Hartwick of Byron
Center and Lana (Faro) Gervasi of Lansing; two sisters-in-law, Irene Barrus of
Greenville and Beth Murphy of Colfax, Calif.; ex-son-law, Robert Urie of
Portland; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ronald (Peggy) Murphy of Haslett,
Howard (Diane) Murphy of Lansing, Mike and Marcus Murphy of Weidman and many
nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Daniel Steman, Pastor on April 14,
at the Portland Church of the Nazarene with interment following at Danby
Cemetery.  Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home,
Portland.  Any and all contributions can be made to the Heartland Hospice or the
Ionia County Commission on Aging.
