She was born Feb. 18, 1907, one of 13 children born to Mr. and Mrs. J. Harvey Schrock of Middleburg, Indiana. She married Russell Hartzler on Dec. 2, 1928. She was an active member of the Church of the Brethren all her life and held numerous church leadership roles. She was a cook at Camp Brethren Heights in Rodney, Mich., and a past president of Michigan Church Women United. She and her husband were active in Brethren service, including clothing relief and refugee resettlement. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Ellen Cowles of Lynchburg, Va. and Babs Wheeler, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, Daryl of Lake Odessa and Karyl of Lake, Mich.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Burial is at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. Relatives and friends are invited to meet on Nov. 12 at home of Daryl Hartzler at 3525 Jordan Lake, Lake Odessa from 1 to 5 p.m. Memorial services will be held Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Lansing Church of the Brethren, 301 S. Washington, Lansing.
