Ionia County News, 31 May 1956

Mrs. Jay Harwood, R.4, Ionia, died at 9:30 Wednesday evening, May 23, at the 
age of 88.  She had been failing in health for several months.

Funeral service was held from her late home at 3:30 Saturday afternoon, May 
26.   Rev. J. Lawrence Ward officiated and burial was in Saranac cemetery.  
Bearers were Walter Reed, Kenneth Stout, Clayton Harwood, Clare Baker, Leo 
McAlary, Gale Galloway, Cliff Morse and John Sarlows.

The daughter of Edward J. and Cornelia Eagle, she was born in Berlin Township, 
November 30, 1868, and was married to Jay Harwood in 1898.  They celebrated 
their Golden Wedding in 1948, in the home where they have lived for the past 58 
years.

She was a member of the Berlin Center Methodist Church and when health 
permitted, active in the work of the church and the community.  She organized 
the Needlecraft Department of the Ionia Free Fair and was head of the 
department for many years. 

She is survived by her husband, Jay; a son, Harold J.; two daughters, Mrs. Max 
Stebbins of Orange, and Miss Lois Harwood of Bloomfield Hills.
