IONIA- Helen Elvira Harwood, 84, former Ionia resident, died Aug. 19 at 
Provincial House West, Lansing.

The daughter of Hugh and Lena May Townsend, she was born in Orleans Township 
April 22, 1903, attended Orleans schools, and was graduated from Ionia High 
School. She was also a graduate of the Kellogg dieticians school at Battle 
Creek and was employed at Hurley Hospital, Flint.

She was married to Kenneth Harwood March 16, 1935 and lived her entire married 
life on Ainsworth Road. The Harwood's celebrated their golden wedding 
anniversary in 1974. He died in December 1975.

Surviving are a son, Frederick Harwood of Marshall; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas 
(Avis) Wahl of Grand Ledge and Mrs. Frank (Marcia) Porter of Wilsonville, Ore.; 
11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Rich Street Chapel of Montgomery Funeral 
Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Willis Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.

the family will be at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A memorial for the American Cancer Society has been established in care of the 
funeral home.
