Feb. 18, 2017 HARRIET MARY HASKIN Lake Odessa, MI - Harriet Mary Haskin, aged 88, of Lake Odessa, succumbed to her final illness on Thursday morning, Feb 16, 2017. She received the grim diagnosis on Tuesday, and faced it with courage and trust in God's providence, the same way she fought earlier battles with cancer and heart disease. Her faith, and love of God sustained her throughout the trials of life, and were the defining character of her life. Harriet was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman: her parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Jandernoa; her brothers, William and Donald; and her sisters, Rita and Jeanne. Richard Jandernoa is her one surviving brother. Harriet was born February 10, 1929 on a farm in Pewamo. She married Norman Haskin on October 2, 1948 and moved to the farm in Lake Odessa where she lived the remainder of her life. Harriet and Norm were early members of the parish of St. Edwards Catholic Church, in the days before the church was built in lake Odessa. Together they raised nine children, Allen (Diane) Haskin, Chris Haskin, Cathie (Ron) Denney, Connie (Fred) Teachworth, Mary (Kay) Haskin, David (Amy) Haskin, Deb (Matt) Cramer, Brian (Becky) Haskin, and Liza Spencer. She devoted her life to her children, her 32 grandchildren and 54 great- grandchildren, and liked nothing better than to receive a visit from one of the little ones. Harriet will be remembered for her abiding faith in God and her love of family dinners, card games, and social events with family and friends. She was especially grateful to Teresa Worthngton, her "adopted" daughter who has been assisting her with managing her household for the past several years. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Monday, feb. 20, at Koops Funeral Chapel in lake Odessa. An additional visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM that evening, with a Rosary at 7:30 PM. The mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, Feb.21, 2017 at St. Edwards, Catholic Church in lake Odessa. the rite of interment will follow at lakeside Cemetery, lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers Harriet has requested that mass offerings be given or donations to Right to Life of Michigan.
