The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, July 25, 1924

Saranac, July 25—Freeman C. Haskins, aged 76, died at his home at 11 o’clock 
Friday morning.  

Two years ago Mr. Freeman suffered a stroke of paralysis, but seemed to fully 
recover within a short time and had been very well since and seemed to be as 
well as usual the morning of his death.  After eating a good breakfast he was 
found dead in his chair out on the front porch a little later.  Mrs. Haskins 
survives him.

Five years ago the aged couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Haskins has been a resident of Saranac nearly all of his life and has been 
an active worker in the welfare work of the city.  He was a Civil war veteran 
and foremost figure in all patriotic services in the locality, especially 
Memorial day services.

Besides the aged widow he is survived by seven sons, James, Bert, John, and 
Alex, of Gogebic lake in the upper peninsula, and Henry of Berlin, Grover and 
Leon, of Saranac, and one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Boardman, of Ionia.  One 
daughter, Mrs. Herman Dawson, died at the age of 32.  Mrs. Boardman, the 
daughter who lives in Ionia, is at Chain ‘O Lakes camping.

The funeral arrangements cannot be completed until the four sons, who are in 
the upper peninsula, can be reached.  It was stated by one of the sons at 
Saranac that the services probably would not be before Monday at the earliest. 

A telegram has been sent to Mrs. Boardman, but no word had been received from 
her at 2:30 Friday afternoon.
