Hatch was born in Monroe, Asthabula county, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1837 and departed this life at his home in Lowell Feb. 10, 1920, in his 83rd year. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, Rev. A. H. Lash officiating clergyman. Members of the G.A.R. and W.R.C. attended in a body. Burial in South Boston cemetery. Mr. Hatch came with his parents to Michigan in the pioneer days, locating in South Boston in 1844. He was of a family of ten children, of whom a sister, Mrs. A. C. Sherman, is the only survivor. He was actively engaged in community affairs in the pioneer days of South Boston. He was united in marriage to Dellie A. Towl on Nov. 6, 1864. To this union were born four children, Cliff, Della, Hattie and Carry, the last of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Lottie Elkins was taken into the home when a young child and was always regarded as a member of the family. Mrs. Hatch departed this life in 1909. Mr. Hatch was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in Company I, 20th Michigan Infantry, in 1862. After six months he had an illness which disabled him for further service. He has ever remained a staunch defender of the flag and was an enthusiastic member of the G.A.R. The Great Messenger called our veteran friend and father to his Great Beyond and he is at rest.
