Dec. 20, 1930 HUBBARDSTON John M. Hatfield was born in Crystal township, Montcalm county, April 1, 1877, and passed away December 15, 1930, at the farm of his brother Ephram, in Bloomer township. On February 28, 1900, he was married to Miss May Easterday, who died two years later. to this union was born one child, Mrs. C.M. Howland, of Lansing. On September 20, 1905, he married Miss Veda Patridge, to whom were born four daughters, Mrs. H.O.Gull, of Hubbardston; Mrs. Elson Eichelberg, of Greenville, and Francis and Olive Hatfield. A year ago he severed work at the Michigan reformatory at Ionia as foreman of one of the Prisoner work crews. While on duty he suffered a stroke, and for several months had been an invalid. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Ionia. For a number of years he owned and conducted a service garage at Hubbardston, and for three years, from 1927 to 1929 he was village president. Besides his widow and children he is survived by three brothers, Ephram, of Butternut; Herbert, of Detroit, and Fred of Ionia, and one sister, Mrs. Elsie Munix of Lyons. The funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at the Bloomer Center church, with Rev. Floyd N. Drake officiating.
