HATHAWAY DIES AT HOME IN IONIA Ionia, Mich., Jan. 7. - Dr. Joseph Hathaway died at his home here this morning after an illness of a year. Stomach trouble was the cause. The dead man was one of the pioneers of this section, coming here from Springfield, Oakland county, his birthplace more than forty years ago. Dr. Hathaway served with Company G, First Michigan cavalry, for three years during the Civil war. After the war he studied dentistry and came to Ionia, where he practiced up to a year ago. He was one of the founders and charter members of the Old Light Guards, organized in 1876. He leaves a widow and two children, Mrs. R.K. Taylor of Grand Rapids and Dr. Claude E. Hathaway of Ionia.
