Hattis, 66, died at his home in Pewamo at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. He was a former Grand Trunk railroad employee and retired recently. Born October 22, 1882 Mr. Hattis was a life-long resident of Pewamo. He is survived by his wife Nina, three daughters, Bertalon of Pewamo, Kathryn Williams of Lyons, and Birdaline Armstead of Pontiac; three sons, Raymond of Pewamo, Lloyd of Walled Lake and Harold of Pontiac; a brother Frank Hattis of Pewamo, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Shaw-Rivett Funeral Home at Muir. Burial will be in the East Plans cemetery with the Rev. Myron Hoyt of Lyons officiating. From the scrapbook of Bessie Townsend, Page 137, located in the Lyons, Michigan Museum: Funeral rites were held at the Shaw-Rivet Funeral Home, Muir, for John E. Hattis, 67. He was born in Pewamo on October 22, 1882 and had lived in that village all his life except for several years he spent in Pontiac. He was retired from 30 years service on the Grand Trunk Railroad. He married Nina Parks on July 20, 1909. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Birdaline Armistead of Pontiac, Mrs. Kathryn Williams of Lyons, and Bertalou Hattis of Pewamo; three sons, Harold of Pontiac, Lloyd of Walled Lake, and Raymond of Pewamo; one brother, Frank of Pewamo; 11 grandchildren.
