Hattis Buried Saturday Afternoon at East Plains - Final rites were held last Saturday afternoon for John E. Hattis, 67, at the Shaw-Rivett Funeral Home at Muir at 1 o'clock. Born in Pewamo on October 22, 1882, he had lived most of his life in that village, having lived in Pontiac for several years then returning to Pewamo a few years ago. He had made a host of friends throughout the area, having formerly worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad and retiring after 30 years of service. He was united in marriage to Nina Parks on July 20, 1909, who survives him. He is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Birdaline Armistead of Pontiac, Mrs. Kathryn Williams of Lyons, and Bertalou Hattis at Pewamo; and three sons, Harold of Pontiac, Lloyd of Walled Lake, and Raymond of Pewamo. He is also survived by one brother Frank of Pewamo, and 11 grandchildren. He passed away last Wednesday evening about 9:15 p.m. after being in ill health the past few months. Funeral services were conducted from Shaw-Rivett Funeral Home at Muir with the Rev. Myron Hoyt of the Lyons Methodist Church officiating. Internment was at the East Plains Cemetery. Additional Comments: Please note that the marriage year for John and Nina should have been July 22, 1911, not 1909.
