Russell J. Haverstick, 68, of Belding died Monday, Dec. 4, 1995 at Butterworth 
Hospital in Grand Rapids.  He was born March 4, 1927 in Grand Rapids, the son 
of Johnny and Goldie (Hand) Haverstick.  He married Vergie M. Jones on Oct. 24, 
1947 in Ionia.

He was a lifelong resident of the Ionia County area, a U.S. Navy veteran of 
World War II, a life member of the VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan, where he was a 
past commander and also a member of the Pearl Lake Lodge F & AM.  

He is survived by his wife Vergie; daughters Charlotte (Tom) Smith of Belding 
and Patricia (Russell) Smith of Orleans; sons Kenneth (Barbara) Haverstick of 
Orleans and Jim Haverstick of Belding; 13 grandchildren and 18 great 
grandchildren; sisters Peggy (Don) Watson of St. Johns and Nancy Hillman of 
Lansing.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Stebbins and Simpson 
Funeral Home in Sheridan with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.  Interment 
will be at Woodard Lake Cemetery.  

Visitation is from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial 
contributions may be made to the Faith Community Christian School.
