The Ionia Daily Standard, Wednesday, December 11, 1901

James Hawkhurst died last evening at 7:10 o’clock at his home on South 
Jefferson street.  He was an old soldier, but not a member of the local post, 
but the comrades will attend the funeral.  He enlisted from Illinois.  He 
leaves a wife and one son.  Funeral on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., with service at 
Wm. H. Borden post room.  All comrades of the post are asked to attend.
