She was born on June 8, 1917, and Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Morrell and Edna (Crill) Patterson. Mrs. Hawkins was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Ionia. She loved golf and was a member of the Ionia Country Club and enjoyed playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on Jan. 30, 1988. Surviving are her daughters, Renee (David) Rosekrans of Rockford and Deborah (Bill) Bensinger of Norwalk, Ohio; grandchildren Matthew Rosecrans of Rockford, Denee (Tom) Michel of Stevensville, Bille Jo (John) Kilbride of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Brent Bensinger of Pensacola, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; niece Kathy Brock of Illinois; and two great-nieces Kelly and Terry and their families. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Larry Brown at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids in memory of Mrs. Hawkins.
