Hawley, was found dead in her home about 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon in a kneeling position with her head in a chair. The discovery was made by her son- in-law, Roy Jadwin, upon his return from Lansing, where he had left his family for a visit. Mrs. Hawley had been apparently in her usual health until Sunday morning, when she visited Dr. Hargraves and got some medicine, complaining of not feeling well. She walked to the doctor’s office and back to her home, stopping to chat briefly with neighbors on the way home about 11 o’clock Sunday morning. After church her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Stafford, on her way home from church stopped at her mother’s but receiving no answer at the door concluded Mrs. Hawley was not at home. Mrs. Hawley had worried considerable recently over financial matters, relative said, since her savings were in the closed State Savings bank in Ionia. She was a sister of the late Fred and Charles Gauss, of Palo, and leaves two daughters, Mrs. Stafford and Mrs. Jadwin, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were attended Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home, where she had lived with her daughter, Mrs. Jadwin, and from the Methodist church at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was in the Palo cemetery. Rev. Floyd Drake conducted the services.
