He was born in Brantford, Ontario, in 1840, and came to this county with his parents when fifteen years old. From that time till the time he moved to town he was engaged in farming, and was well and favorably known among the rural population, serving as deputy sheriff for some time, and acting also as township clerk and treasurer of Easton township for several terms. Mr. Hawley was a brother of representative Willard Hawley. He moved to town about thirty years ago, and was in the agricultural business with Hubbell & Remington, and later with Spaulding and Merriett until he retired some years ago. He leaves besides his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Etta Schilds, and a grandson, Herbert Schilds. The funeral will be held at the home at 940 West Main street at 3:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon, interment in Saranac cemetery. Transcriber’s Note: Although the burial certificate and obituary indicate burial in Saranac cemetery, Mr. Hawley was actually buried in Oak Hill cemetery in Ionia, Michigan, documented by cemetery records.
